The IHF holds a rare bibliographic, iconographic, and documental archive about the Brazilian 19th century, formed by the collections of Arnaldo Machado Florence, Dr. Érico João Siriuba Stickel, Dr. Rosemarie Erika Horch, Prof. Dr. Ana Maria Camargo, Rubens Borba de Moraes, and members of the Florence Family.

Committed to gradually making its collection available on the Internet, in 2011 the Institute established a partnership with the Library Brasiliana Guita and José Mindlin - USP and the Laboratório de Engenharia de Conhecimento [Knowledge Engineering Laboratory] of the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo (KNOMA) to develop a virtual library that would meet the project’s specific needs.

In 2019, all content was transferred to the DSpace platform, making available not only items from the IHF’s own collection, but also documents granted by national and foreign partner institutions. Among them are the Museu Paulista of the University of São Paulo, Bibliothèque Nationale de France [National Library of France] (BNF), Instituto Histórico e Geográfico Brasileiro [Brazilian Historical and Geographical Institute] (IHGB), Arquivo Nacional [National Archive], Fundação Biblioteca Nacional [National Library Foundation], and Centro de Memória [Center of Memory] of the University of Campinas (UNICAMP).

By the end of 2020, as part of a project carried out by Mercúrio Digitalizações with the support of the ProAC Bid N. 25/2019, “Implementation of Digital Libraries” - Secretariat of Culture, São Paulo State Government -, the IHF digital repository obtained resources to add 500 new items for visually impaired people. Among them, several manuscripts by Hercule Florence.
